RESUMÉ

  • Name: Jude Orlando
  • Education: FIDM, Fashion Design, 1998
  • Current Title: Museum Assistant for FIDM Museum & Galleries

FC: You’ve designed for some of the industry’s biggest labels, so it’s safe to say you know a thing or two about fashion. Why do you think Paris is considered the fashion capital of the world?

JO: Simply put, Parisians. They have a tremendous sense of self and individually are aware of what looks good on them. Beyond that Parisians have a great eye for accessories and really know how to merchandise.

FC: Who are your favorite French designers?

JO: My favorite French fashion designer of all time…Hubert de Givenchy. He dressed some of the most stylish and iconic women. I have a few favorite labels, but mind you the head designers aren’t necessarily French themselves—YSL, Hermés, Louis Vuitton.

FC: You’ve been studying French for awhile…what made you decide to take up the language?

JO: My mother is French and my grandparents were too, so I study French to better understand myself and the history from which I come. Besides that, it’s spoken throughout the world by over 128 million people and after working in the fashion industry on an international level, I saw how speaking French can be a very useful skill.

FC: What do you love most about Paris?

JO: Paris has attracted so many influential artists, writers, philosophers, thinkers, dancers, and designers. It was originally coined the “City of Light” for this reason. It was a beacon of intellectual thinking, artistic inspiration, and riveting fashion.

FC: Can you help us translate a few key phrases?

JO: Of course.

Do you have my size?

Avez-vous ma taille? (for clothing) or Avez-vous ma pointure? (for shoes)

Do you know how I can get to the Champs-Élysées? The Louvre? The Eiffel Tower?

Savez-vous comment je pourrais aller aux Champs-Élysées?…au Musée du Louvre?…à La Tour Eiffel?

Missing you from Paris…but I think I might stay longer!

Tu me manques de Paris mais, je pense que je vais rester ici plus longtemps!

Dreaming of going to Paris? FIDM Study Tours can take you there!
