Just Accepted Student Kelsey Norris
Majoring in Visual Communications
Seventeen-year-old high school senior Kelsey Norris can't wait to make the move from Northern California to Los Angeles, and start her classes in the Visual Communications program this summer. With a goal of becoming a celebrity stylist, she wants to make a name for herself as a fashion icon. Her much anticipated first day of class is July 11, 2012.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I would describe myself as a fearless leader who has a passion for clothing. My style is edgy, yet girly, much like my outgoing personality. I take fashion classes at my high school, model in fashion shows, work at a shoe store, style friends and family, and have been a proud member of the Nordstrom Fashion Board for three years. I was born glamour-obsessed, so it is inevitable that I'm meant to be part of the fashion industry. I am ecstatic about my journey at FIDM because I know it is the perfect place to begin the endeavors I envision for the rest of my life.
What are your proudest accomplishments so far? My proudest accomplishment is being accepted to FIDM!! It is the college of my dreams, and October 26, 2011, was one of the best days of my life.
Who is your Admissions Advisor? My advisor is Jennifer Clark, and
she is amazing!
I understand you're a Fashion Club President. Tell us about your experience: We have created mood boards, discussed style and trends, and completed several projects. It has been exciting to get others involved in something I care so much about. Not only is starting a fashion club exciting, it is a great opportunity to earn scholarships.
What made FIDM right for you? I have always dreamt of going to a college where I can pursue what I love. FIDM is the place to do exactly that. I love that the campus I am going to attend is located in LA, California's fashion capital. It's small enough to know my name, yet big enough to have the resources available to help me with my career goals. The Visual Communications major only exists at this school and the detailed program is perfect for all my interests. FIDM can turn my dreams into a reality in ways no other fashion college can.
Describe your entrance project. For my application, I created a store window and interior display inspired by my customer, the "L.A. Lady." My store theme was also based on the quote, "always keep head, heels, and standards high." My third project had to include a circle, square, and triangle, so I created a zoomed-in view of an outfit my customer would wear incorporating these shapes. The main colors and patterns I used were pink, tan, lace, floral, and cheetah print.
What are your career goals? My dream career is to become a celebrity stylist and make a name for myself as a fashion icon. I would love to style clients, work photo shoots and runway shows, be an editor for a magazine, and make the world a more stylish place, one outfit at a time.
What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I expect to learn the creative and technical skills necessary to excel not only in my classes, but in my career. Gaining a full understanding of every aspect of the fashion industry fills me with tremendous enthusiasm.
