At FIDM, getting involved is fun. Events on and off campus are scheduled regularly for students to network with industry leaders, as well as with each other.

FIDM Student Activities

Rooftop Galas, Yoga Classes, and Downtown L.A. Walking Tours

At FIDM, students not only get an amazing education in fashion and the entertainment industries, they also have tons of opportunity to have fun at mostly free, on- and off-campus events all year long. FIDM has an entire department dedicated to the social needs of the student body. From ice skating at LA Live and skyscraper rooftop parties to motivational speaker events and yoga, students can participate in just about anything. There’s even a Facebook page to keep everyone in the loop.

Halloween Costume Contest

Every year, Student Activities hosts an all-campus Halloween Costume Contest. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate for a chance to win awesome prizes. This year, a student dressed as Jack Sparrow won first place! Prizes differ each Halloween, but this year they included
tickets to a Kings game, the movies, and Universal Studios.

Passionately Pink Silent Auction and
Bake Sale

In support of breast cancer research, the Student Activities Department coordinates a silent auction to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation every October. They raised an impressive $1200 at last year’s auction! Bidding started at $15 for the themed gift baskets, and were sold at bids of $50 to $250. Students also participated in umbrella-decorating and a bake sale.

Little Dresses for Africa

Students from all majors attended the first annual Little Dresses for Africa sewing event this past fall. Using decorative trim provided by Student Activities, students fashioned dresses out of new pillowcases for girls in Africa. Sewing machines were provided and volunteers, including instructors, were on hand to provide assistance.

Mode Launch Party

Mode is a design magazine by FIDM Students for FIDM Students, and to celebrate the first issue of the year, Student Activities threw a party on the rooftop of the TENTEN building
in Downtown LA, one of the buildings near campus in which FIDM Students reside. They had a red carpet and a step-and-repeat banner, which is a backdrop display with a logo repeated. (Typically, the media loves to snap shots of celebs on the red carpet in front of a step-and-repeat.) They also had a photographer, DJ, and lots of food. The evening ended with a “Walk Off” styling competition put on by Mode’s executive board.

Clothing Swap

Twice a year, FIDM Student Activities organizes and hosts a clothing swap event in the Student Lounge. All quarter leading up to the event, students are encouraged to donate clothing, shoes, and accessories. For each item donated, students receive a ticket which can then be exchanged for something during the swap. Hundreds of students participate in the 4-day event. Any leftover garments or accessories are donated to a local shelter.

Speakers, Workshops, and
Special Activities

FIDM has lots of opportunities for students to attend workshops and special guest speaker events. Last year a motivational speaker from Anthony Robbins addressed the students! There were also yoga and pilates workshops, Downtown LA and Fashion District Walking Tours, a Dodgers game night, and an exclusive-to-FIDM ice skating night at LA Live. The Student Activities Department makes sure that FIDM Students have fun all year long.
